Welcome to Calvary Baptist Church! We are a fellowship of believers who worship and study God's Word together in Bowling Green, Virginia. Our church is a place where you can connect with God and with others. Feel free to join us as we grow in faith and love.
Our History
Calvary Baptist Church was founded on June 11, 1897 by 65 charter members. The members started construction of their first church building in 1899 on the site that is currently 120 Milford St. The Sodegren Educational Building was constructed in 1962. The current church sanctuary at 120 Dorsey St., was constructed in 1980 and the old sanctuary razed. We are currently affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia, the Southern Baptist Convention and the Hermon Baptist Association.
In 2013 the church was presented with the opportunity to acquire the residence at 124 Milford St. After much prayer and deliberation the residence was purchased in 2016 with the vision of community outreach through Christian endeavors. That property is now known as the Well House and engages in community activities that align with the church’s faith and practices yet not legal nor practical within the confines of the church facility, i.e., certain social gatherings, educational pursuits, meeting spaces, fund raising activities and other community beneficial activities.
